Reflexology Therapy Cheltenham
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary medicine. It works on the principle that there are reflexes on the feet relative to every organ, function and part of the human body. By applying pressure to specific points on the feet, this in effect, stimulates the body’s own healing processes and is considered to be a safe way to restore the body. I have over 15 years experience with this therapy so please ask if you have any questions.
The history of reflexology
From ancient texts we know that the early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians worked on the feet to promote good health, but it has it’s origins with the ancient Egyptians. In AD1027 it is recorded as having been used as an energy balancing procedure. It was in the early 20th century that a Dr William Fitzgerald developed it further to what we know today.
Can it help stress?
Reflexology has a dynamic effect on the body in its ability to relieve stress and tension. As stress is responsible for many illnesses, (an estimated 75%) we become more susceptible to ill health. This is where Reflexology comes into its own, as it is deeply relaxing and very restorative for the body. This in turn causes all systems of the body to function more efficiently, including those that eliminate waste products and toxins.
Reflexology as a preventative health care
Increasingly we are needing to find ways to keep our health good, especially when we are faced with stress, fatigue, chemicals/toxins and poor air quality, to name a few. This therapy is a great way to prevent the onset of health problems and to deal with stress.
It is safe for people of all ages, from the very young to the elderly.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?
The Reflexologist applies a pressure to specific points on the feet and, by doing this, is able to stimulate the part that it corresponds to in the body. There are seven thousand nerve endings (size of pin heads) – mostly on the underside of the feet, and some on the front and to the side.
The therapist will work the whole body on the feet and also concentrate on problem areas as a way to restore balance. Reflexology cannot diagnose specific diseases, but the feet will tell the therapist that an organ function, or part, is in a congested, sluggish or tense state.
